Bendable smartphone in developments
Nokia has been making the headlines recently with the launch of its tie-up with Windows and the release of the Lumia 800.
While the Lumia device is receiving relatively positive review, with particular praise being offered for its solid build, the Finnish firm is looking to the future with something completely different.
The Nokia Kinetic bendable handset has been seen by NokNok at a preview event. The handset has moved away from the latest touchscreen technology and is instead pioneering a new form of control that will involve bending the actual handset.
By using flexible plastics, it is possible bend and twist the Kinetic past the limits of a traditional mobile without damaging its screen or electronics. This also means that it is a particularly tough phone, which could open up another section of the market.
The phone works by twisting its chassis. This will then scroll through images or music without touching the screen. Bending the phone in the middle then opens up whatever is displayed on the screen, removing the need to fiddle about with touch.
It is certainly an innovative concept but whether or not consumers will be taken in by the idea will only be seen when the prototype is launched in the future.
