Smartphone taxi app launched
A smartphone application has been launched which enables users to compare cab prices and book a service through their smartphone.
Currently available on the iPhone, the free Kabbee app features 4,000 licensed minicab services in the London area. After downloading the program, users just need to link in their credit card details with the service and enter their destination to be able to view, compare and book a taxi.
Estimated waiting times are also available, while the technology will allow the taxi firm to view the precise location of the customer.
LDNtaxi is a similar application on the iPhone, designed to supply a taxi to users quickly by sending their location to any registered driver within a mile radius of the fare.
Chas Ball is the chief executive of CarPlus charity, and supports the development of technology to make life without a car easier. He told the Telegraph, “There is a generation that no longer thinks the car is a must-have but the iPhone is a must-have … car clubs lend themselves to booking on the fly.”
Smartphone technologies are being deployed by car clubs to help members locate and book a vehicle quickly. They can even be programmed to unlock the car automatically when the customer approaches.
