Vodafone to launch own-brand smart phone
Vodafone has today announced plans to launch the Vodafone Smart, its latest own-brand smart phone.
The Vodafone Smart will be available on pay-as-you-go contracts from this summer. It runs on Android 2.2 software, allowing access to 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as the Android Market, Gmail, Google Maps and Google Talk instant messaging.
Customers will be able to customise their phone to meet their own tastes with a range of covers and fashion accessories. They will also be able to design their own bespoke covers online.
The new smart phone has been designed with first-time phone users in mind and the home screen comes pre-loaded with direct-link icons to key functions such as Facebook, Twitter, texts and calls.
Patrick Chomet, Vodafone Group Terminals Director, said, “More and more Vodafone customers are enjoying the benefits of smart phones, which currently account for over 40 per cent of the phones we sell in Europe.
“Continuing to push the boundaries through our own-brand range, the Vodafone Smart is a new smart phone concept. It takes the higher end mobile internet experience and packages it for the mass market, its range of covers and accessories making it a fun fashion statement.”
