Sony Ericsson unveil 'Shakira' to the world
The latest in the busy smartphone market has just been unveiled by Sony Ericsson – and is expected to be available in the UK by the end of the year.
Code named ‘Shakira’ the Xperia X8 is the newest member of the Xperia line, bridging the gap between the large X10 and the Xperia mini versions.
The Xperia X8 will feature Sony Ericsson’s social and media functions, Timescape and Mediascape while also running Android 1.6.
The camera on the new smartphone is of 3.2 megapixel quality while the four corners are operational for easy one hand use and one touch access to applications. Games, video, internet can be viewed on the 3-inch screen.
The phone is complete with WiFi, a 600MHz CPU, 1,200mAh battery, and interchangeable covers.
Speaking at the unveiling Timo Maassmann, Product Marketing Manager for Xperia X8, said the new phone would open up the smartphone market to new customers.
“The open Android operating system delivers great smartphone functionality and access to thousands of applications on Android Market. We are delighted to be able to bring the full experience of our Xperia smartphones to new consumers by delivering a fully featured device.”
The X8 will cost around £220 (€259) when it launches this winter.
