Apple launch redesigned iPhone

The latest in the Apple stable of iPhone technology has been unveiled and, as promised, it is a complete upgrade on the original model.

Apple officially introduced the new phone, iPhone 4, to the world at a conference in San Francisco, describing the handset as the ‘biggest leap’ in redesign and upgrading since 2007.

Dubbed the ‘IOS4’ this fourth version of the iPhone supports FaceTime video chat, a Wi-Fi service that allows users to connect and chat through the handset's front-mounted video camera.
A back-mounted 4-megapixel camera is equipped to shoot HD video and movie clips all of which can be edited through an optional mobile iMovie application.

At the heart of the new iPhone’s features and capabilities is a new touch-screen display that supports images up to 960 x 640. Other upgraded hardware includes the front and back cameras, extended battery life and a three-axis gyro.

The phone is also 24 per cent thinner than its predecessor. Apple's iPhone currently has around 15 per cent of the smartphone market, behind Blackberry and market-leader Symbian.

This new, improved Apple offering will go on sale on 24 June. The 32GB model is priced at £206 and £137 for the 16GB model.
