Vodafone fastest for browsing says survey

A recent independent survey, carried out by network measurement specialists SIRODA, has found that Vodafone is the fastest network provider in the UK for browsing the internet. However, O2 comes out on top for music downloads.

The research was commissioned by O2 to compare the data speeds of the five mobile network operators in the UK. Tests were carried out across 150 UK locations over a 60 day period, at various points during the day. The objective was to replicate typical user patterns to get a realistic idea of what speeds users are being offered.

In five of the cities tested, Vodafone came out on top for web page access speed, followed by O2, Orange and T-Mobile who tied in second place with the fastest speeds in four cities each. Service provider, 3, came out bottom as being the fastest in only three cities.

For music downloads it was not such a close call. O2 came out top for download speed in twelve of the cities surveyed. Second place went to Vodafone, who was the fastest provider in five cities, and third place went to T-Mobile, who was fastest in two cities. 3 was fastest in one city only and Orange was not fastest in any city.

Unfortunately, the results released did not include any geographical data, so users will not be able to tell which network is faster in the area they are living.
