Vodafone starts selling iPhone today

Vodafone is the latest mobile network to offer the iPhone and will be selling the device in its shops from today.

The network is selling the iPhone for the same kind of price as competitors O2 and Orange, but each has slightly different packages.

Vodafone is offering 1GB of 3G data each month in its basic package, which is better than the 750MB offered on the Orange package. However, the O2 package offers unlimited data, which is very useful for iPhone users, who tend to search the web on their phones much more than any other handset users.

This high use of the mobile internet can lead to large, unexpected bills for data if users opt for Vodafone’s or Orange’s packages.

However, Vodafone says it has invested heavily in its 3G network, claiming its is ‘deep pan’, while its competitors’ are ‘thin and crispy.’ Despite this claim, Vodafone’s network covers just 81 per cent of the population, comparing not too favourable with Orange’s 93 per cent.

The reliability of mobile networks is set to be big news this coming year with all the major players competing with each other. The launch of Google’s new Nexus One device will be another talking point for the networks. Vodafone will initially be offering the handset, followed by other networks later on.
