Cross-platform mobile apps made easier with new smartphone SDK

Cross-platform mobile apps specialist Ideaworks Labs is seeking to make it easier for smaller developers to produce applications, with the release of version 4.0 of its Airplay software development kit (SDK) for smartphones.

According to representatives for the technology firm, they want to facilitate a cost-effective way of creating mobile apps for the "wide array" of operating systems and devices, noting that most developers tend just to choose the Apple iPhone for its high market share.

While iPhone handsets are already covered, along with Symbian, Windows Mobile and BREW devices, Airplay SDK 4.0 features added support for Android-powered smartphones.

Alex Caccia, chief executive of Ideaworks Labs, remarked that his company's latest SDK has been "a bit of an industry secret", adding that it now represents "an extremely powerful development solution" for all types of rich mobile apps.

"We're hugely excited to be able to offer Airplay SDK 4.0 at an affordable price to all developers, and look forward to seeing great applications from the iPhone and other app stores making more money for their creators by migrating to Android, Symbian, BREW and other platforms," he concluded.

A free evaluation of the SDK can be downloaded from the Airplay SDK website.
